Rich gold color with fruit of 1-2 pounds. Not overly sweet, but fruity complex flavor with old fashioned taste. Slightly irregular shape . // SSE Member Martin Longseth wrote: Early fruit often cat-faced but later ones make this variety worth growing for the one-pound slicers. // large golden yellow beefsteak fruits, good flavor Virginia heirloom obtained by Chuck Wyatt, introduced to SSE by NY MA C // Virginia heirloom, introduced by the late Chuck Wyatt of Maryland (now deceased, 2002), who got it from a friend in Virginia. Introduced commercially by Heirloom Tomatoes of Rosedale, Maryland in 2004./// 8-16 oz deep gold fruits, not blemish free or uniformly shaped, but truly outstanding flavor, one of my favorites.

is an off-type, mutation or natural cross of ‘Aunt Ruby’s German Green’, big-fruited green when ripe tomato from Germany. First listed at SSE in 2004 and offered commercially by ‘Fedco Seeds’. Indeterminate, tall and regular leaf plants produce big cherry-sized (about 1-2 oz), green when ripe tomatoes. Clear epidermis and green flesh, sometimes with pink blush on the blossom end when fully ripe and smooth, darker green shoulders. Fruit are round, sometimes slightly oblate and have very good, sweet tomato taste. Many growers noticed, that this is the best tasting green when ripe cherry tomato, they ever grew. A little bit later than other cherries, but definitely worth to wait a bit longer for them. Mid-seson, about 80 days from transplant.

The standard by which all other green-when-ripe varieties are judged.Grows over a pound with a neon green flesh, a sweet flavor. A German Family Heirloom. // HISTORY: This cherished green beefsteak was preserved for decades by Ruby Arnold of Greeneville, Tennessee. Born in Germany, Ruby brought the seeds with her when she immigrated to the United States as a young woman and grew the tomato every year in her East Tennessee garden. She generously shared seeds with neighbors and family until her death in 1997. In 1994, her grandson, Bill Minkey of Wisconsin, listed it in the Seed Savers Exchange Yearbook under the name “Aunt Ruby’s German Green.” The tomato quickly became a sensation among heirloom growers for its extraordinary flavor and beauty. Today it is considered one of the crown jewels of American-preserved German heirlooms and is offered by nearly every major heirloom seed company.

There are apparently two different forms of this Ukrainian variety and they are almost exact opposites except for the fruit.. One is a tall indeterminate with wispy foliage. The other is a short dwarf determinate with rugose foliage. The only thing that they share are elongated or banana red fruit about 3” long. Shape is ”suggestive”. Both good for sauce or paste with little juice and few seeds. The one offered here is the determinate one and is very productive for such a short plant.
